It’s been a few weeks since your last salon visit or at home dye-job, the roots are beginning to emerge - whilst grown-out roots are making somewhat of a comeback in 2020, exposed roots may not be a trend you’re willing to dip your toes into, so we’ve got the lowdown on how to keep them covered at home.
First of all, put down the hair dye - the number one mistake that people make when attempting to touch up their roots, is by recolouring the whole head. Layering colour on top of more colour will only result in hair becoming dull and flattening the texture of your locks, as well as unmatched colouring…no thank you.
For a temporary fix to those roots peeking through, grab yourself a bottle of our L’Oréal Magic Retouch Instant Root Concealer Spray, voted the World’s Number One root concealer*, Magic Retouch’s pinpoint micro-diffuser precisely targets roots (and greys!) to provide perfectly blended coverage.
With 9 shades available and a lightweight formula, it can extend the life of your hair colour at home without the unnecessary hassle of re-dyeing. To apply, begin by scraping your hair back tightly and spray from a distance of 13cm around the hairline. Then loosen the hair and section off into quarters, and apply the spray directly on the roots, allowing the product to dry for one minute before touching or styling.

Finding the right shade
When it comes to choosing the right shade for you, opt for the shade slightly lighter than your natural colour, this will ensure that the finer hairs at the root blend correctly with your current lengths.
Layer the product
As with make-up, it’s always best to go in with little to start and continue to add more as you go along to avoid the colour looking too heavy. Start with thin layers and build up to your desired coverage.
Go light around the hairline
Perhaps our fave tip for touching up roots is to go a shade lighter around the hairline, the baby hairs around your face are like fine facial hairs and therefore colour absorbs differently - opt for a lighter shade here to avoid the frame of your face looking too dark.
Avoid direct sunlight
It goes without saying that direct exposure to sunlight not only dries hair out drastically, it also speeds up the oxidation process. When coloured hair is exposed to UV rays, the heat can cause hair colour to fade faster, and this goes for root touch-ups too.
For optimal results use Magic Retouch instant root concealer spray for grey roots and Magic Retouch precision brush to cover scattered greys and temples.
