SKIN GENIUS - SKIN ANALYSIS

L’Oréal Paris Skin Genius is the prodigal skin app that uses an Artificial Intelligence-based skin attribute grading system to give you a detailed skin diagnosis and personalized skincare guidance. This fast, free, and confidential skin analysis tool was developed alongside dermatologists with the understanding that if all skin is different, then skincare recommendations must also be bespoke.

SKIN GENIUS ANALYZES 8 SKIN ATTRIBUTES

  • Fine Lines

Every wrinkle started out as a fine line. Fine lines appear around the eyes and mouth from your 20s and are mainly caused by dehydration and a decline in the production rate of supportive collagen. With decreased elasticity, the skin marks more easily.

  • Eye wrinkles

The skin around your eyes is special. It is much thinner than skin elsewhere on your face and has no sebaceous glands beneath. This makes the eye area more susceptible to dehydration, reduced elasticity and suppleness, and ultimately eye wrinkles.

  • Wrinkles

Face wrinkles are part of the normal age-related reduction in collagen and elastin, which make up the skin’s structure. They are also encouraged by dehydration, epidermis thinning, UV exposure, stress, and pollution. Skin Genius performs its skincare analysis for a range of wrinkles: forehead lines, glabellar lines (frown lines), periorbital wrinkles (crow’s feet), marionette lines (falling downward from the corners of your mouth), and nasolabial fold (smile lines).

  • Deep Wrinkles

Deep wrinkles come from repetitive muscular movement and are visible even when your face is still. Like many things, their depth is increased with age. Age-associated skin thinning and reduced collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production all contribute to deep wrinkles.

  • Firmness

Skin loses firmness over time with skin slackening hot on its heels, particularly in the lower part of the face. The decrease in skin resistance capacity is a result of age-related reductions in collagen and elastin network integrity and in the body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid.

  • Pores Quality

Pores are the miniscule, self-cleaning openings on the skin’s surface, through which oil, moisture, and air can pass. But sometimes pores may seem less than “miniscule”. Enlarged pores, most often found on the sides of your nose, can result from sebum overproduction that blocks pores with dead skin cells.

  • Pigmentation

Aging, sun exposure, pollution, and even hormonal status can cause an overproduction of melanin, the skin’s natural pigments, and lipofuscin, a lipid-containing waste product of cell processes.

  • Radiance

Radiance is the skin’s ability to reflect light. It’s simple: a smoother surface reflects light more evenly. An uneven skin surface, less even skin tone, roughness, an accumulation dead skin cells, visible pores, and dehydration reduce the skin’s reflective capacity. A lack of radiance can cause skin dullness, which is exacerbated by pollution, lack of sleep, and stress.

HOW TO USE SKIN GENIUS STEP-BY-STEP

  • Step 1

Ready for your close-up? Remove glasses, make-up, and hair from your face. Take a selfie in well-lit, natural light for the optimal skin assessment. For those prone to pouting—neutral facial expressions work best.

  • Step 2

Once your selfie’s quality has been verified, input your age, skin type (dry, normal, combination, or oily), and skin sensitivity level. This information helps Skin Genius devise a skincare routine just for you.

  • Step 3

After Skin Genius has computed your results, you can visualize skin strengths and areas of focus for each of the 8 skin attributes, along with your personalized skincare routine recommendation. We don’t store your selfie—it’s deleted after the skin analysis.

Skin Genius draws from over 30 years of clinical data compiled by L’Oréal Paris Laboratories. The online skin analysis works by comparing your selfie with a database of clinically graded faces of women of different ages, race/ethnicities, and skin types. Skin Genius’s skin scanner technology is grounded in the same Artificial Intelligence and deep-learning-based algorithms used for medical & dermatological grading systems. The success of Skin Genius also rests on the innovations of our age—your smartphone now offers more than just the perfect selfie. Powerful hardware and high-resolution cameras invite new possibilities for breakthroughs in cosmetics & skin assessment. Skin Genius is one of them.

Technology isn’t the only thing that matures over time. Skin Genius detects and quantifies 8 common facial signs of aging with precision almost reaching in-person dermatologist evaluations. In recent skin age research, the Artificial Intelligence-based system used by Skin Genius has also been used as a skin care test to successfully grade the severity of facial signs related to sun exposure and aging. And while it’s not possible to reverse time, it is possible to save it. Within moments of your skin test, Skin Genius generates a tailor-made face skincare routine that is based on your area of focus, skin type, and sensitivity and validated by the International Board of Dermatologists of L'Oréal Paris. This could save you hours of research on ingredients that might or might not suit your unique skin.
